THE PARTNERS


Jacob P. Bryniczka is a partner in the law firm and is principally engaged in business, estate planning and promotion and marketing law. His practice also focuses on the formation, financing, purchase and sale of businesses.
Mr. Bryniczka joined the firm in 1971. He attended Westport schools and graduated from Wesleyan University (B.A., 1967) and the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., 1970). He holds a Masters Degree in Taxation from the University of New Haven, where he has served as a lecturer in corporate taxation. Mr. Bryniczka has also lectured on promotion and marketing law at conferences in New York and Toronto, and is a member of the Promotion Marketing Association.
Admitted to practice in Connecticut and before the United States District and Tax Courts, Mr. Bryniczka is a past president of the former Westport Bar Association (1992-93), and is currently a member of the Connecticut (Member, House of Delegates, 1985-1987) and American Bar Associations.
Mr. Bryniczka has served as a member of Westport's Representative Town Meeting and the Recreation Commission.

Amy L. Y. Day is a partner in the firm and concentrates her practice primarily in estate and trust administration, estate planning, and real estate law. Admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1977, she joined the firm in 1978.
Ms. Day is an honors graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., 1977) and received her bachelors degree from Smith College (A.B., cum laude, 1974), where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She attended Westport public schools and is a graduate of Staples High School.
A member of the American, Connecticut and Fairfield County Bar Associations, Ms. Day has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Estates and Probate Section of the Connecticut Bar Association since 1986, and was past President of the former Westport Bar from 1985 to 1986. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of Connecticut Lawyer, a publication of the Connecticut Bar Association and has been a lecturer on various estate planning topics for community and professional groups. Ms. Day has also been active in community affairs, having served as Clerk of the Westport Board of Finance and as a member of the Westport Social Service Advisory Board, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of a number of local charitable organizations.

Ira W. Bloom, a partner in the law firm, concentrates in the areas of land use and municipal law, along with general civil litigation. He is a member of the Fairfield County, Connecticut, and American Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice in the Connecticut and the United States District Courts. Mr. Bloom is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association Planning & Zoning Executive Committee. He has authored several articles on land use and real estate for Connecticut Lawyer, a publication of the Connecticut Bar Association, and has been a frequent speaker at bar association seminars.
Mr. Bloom joined the firm in 1978. He is a graduate of Clark University (B.A. magna cum laude, 1975) where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is an honors graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., 1978).
Mr. Bloom has served as Westport Town Attorney since 1998. In this role he advises the various boards and commissions and handles the town litigation, including land use appeals in the Superior Court and Appellate Court. Mr. Bloom has also served as counsel for Easton and other local towns. He regularly appears before land use boards and administrative agencies for municipalities, private developers, and homeowners' associations. Active in community affairs, Mr. Bloom has served on the boards of various local organizations. He was a member from 1981 to 1989 of the Westport Representative Town Meeting, where he served as Deputy Moderator and Finance Committee Chairman. He served on the Westport Board of Education from 1989 to 1997, and was Chairman for two of those years.

Mark J. Kovack, a partner in the firm, concentrates his practice in the area of general civil litigation, including commercial litigation, real estate litigation, products liability, personal injury law, employment litigation, arbitration, mediation, and appeals. Admitted to practice in Connecticut state and federal courts, as well as the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Mr. Kovack is a member of the Fairfield County, Connecticut and American Bar Associations, as well as the Connecticut, and American Trial Lawyers’ Assocation. Mr. Kovack has participated in extensive arbitration training, serves as a court appointed "Special Master" to mediate disputes in litigation, and offers alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services as an arbitrator and mediator.
Mr. Kovack joined the firm as a partner in 2000. He is a graduate of Albany Law School of Union University (J.D., cum laude, 1985), where he was a member of the Albany Law Review and the Justinian Society. Mr. Kovack received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1982), where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha honorary societies.
Mr. Kovack was a founding Secretary and a Director of the Rainbow Club, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation which sponsors a summer program for children with diabetes in their lives. Mr. Kovack is also active in community affairs in his home town of Ridge-field, where he has served as President and Vice President of the Ridgefield High School Girls’ Softball Booster Club, and coached soccer, basketball, and softball.

Douglas E. LoMonte, a partner in the law firm, spends most of his time advising business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs in connection with the organization, structure, acquisition, sale, merger and financing of privately held business entities, the purchase, sale and leasing of real estate, employment matters and tax and employee benefits matters.
Mr. LoMonte graduated from Trinity College (B.A., 1988), from the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., 1991), and from the University of New Haven (M.S., Taxation, 1999). He joined the firm in 1991.
Admitted to practice in Connecticut State and Federal Courts, Mr. LoMonte is a member of the American and Connecticut (Executive Committee Business Section) Bar Associations.
Mr. LoMonte is a registered sexual harassment training consultant and regularly conducts training seminars for managers and employees on the subjects of sexual harassment and workplace diversity. Mr. LoMonte is a frequent speaker on issues related to business organizations and business acquisitions.
Mr. LoMonte advises the firm's clients regarding their qualified retirement plans. He served as Clerk of the Westport Board of Finance from 1992 to 2000. Currently, Mr. LoMonte serves as Secretary and Member of the Board of Directors of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club and Member of the Parish Advisory Council of St. Lawrence Church in Shelton.

Eugene E. Cederbaum, is Special Counsel to the firm. He concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial transactions, business and corporate law, real estate transactions, municipal law and general civil litigation. He is a member of the American and Connecticut Bar Associations and served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Connecticut Bar Association. He was a member and past president of the former Westport Bar Association.
Mr. Cederbaum graduated from New York University with a B.S. in economics and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. He attended Columbia University School of Law where he received his J.D.
Mr. Cederbaum has served three terms on the Westport Representative Town Meeting and one term on the Westport Board of Education during which time he also served on the board of directors of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education. He has served on several boards of directors of community organizations including the United Way of Westport-Weston and the Westport Arts Center. He is currently general counsel to the Westport Historical Society and serves as Fair Housing Agent for the Town of Westport.
Mr. Cederbaum is admitted to practice in all State and Federal Courts in Connecticut, the Federal District Court and Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Richard S. Gibbons, of Counsel to the firm, practices primarily in the areas of real estate, family law, zoning, and corporate law. He is also counsel to the Gilbert & Bennett Limited Partnership.
Mr. Gibbons is a graduate of Ursinus College (B.A., 1969) and Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law (J.D., 1972), where he was Chairman of the Moot Court Board. After serving in the Army, he returned to Westport and joined the firm in 1972. He is a member of several church committees, and serves on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport, CT.
Mr. Gibbons was a member of the former Westport Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut State and Federal courts.

Mario F. Coppola, an Associate with the firm, practices in the areas of land use and zoning, municipal law, business law, personal injury, commercial and general civil litigation.  He joined the firm in 2006.
Mr. Coppola is a member of the American, Connecticut and New Haven County Bar Associations, as well as the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.  He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Planning & Zoning Section.  He has served as a Commissioner of the West Haven Zoning Board of Appeal and a Senior Member and Committee Chairman in the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Attorney Coppola received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Boston College, where he was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society.  Attorney Coppola earned his Juris Doctor Degree at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where was the 2003 National Italian Bar Association Scholarship Award winner and a Pudlin Scholar.  He is admitted to practice in the State of Connecticut and United States District Court.
